Jaundice

Expert Diagnosis and Treatment for Jaundice

Dr. Tushar Madake specializes in identifying the root cause of jaundice, whether it's from liver, gallbladder, or blood-related issues, and provides targeted treatment to resolve symptoms and prevent complications.

Jaundice isn't a disease itself, but a symptom—a yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes—caused by a buildup of bilirubin in the blood. This can happen due to problems in the liver (hepatic), before the liver (pre-hepatic, like hemolysis), or after the liver (post-hepatic, like a bile duct obstruction). Accurate diagnosis is critical for effective treatment.

Common Symptoms

  • Yellowish tint to skin and eyes
  • Dark-colored urine
  • Pale, clay-colored stools
  • Itching (pruritus)
  • Fatigue, fever, or abdominal pain

Underlying Causes

  • Hepatitis (A, B, C, E)
  • Gallstones blocking the bile duct
  • Alcoholic liver disease
  • Hemolytic anemia
  • Pancreatic or liver tumors

Our Diagnostic and Treatment Process

At Glen Clinic, Dr. Madake follows a systematic approach to jaundice:

  • Thorough History and Physical Exam: Understanding symptoms, risk factors, and family history.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: We utilize a range of tests including liver function tests, complete blood count, and imaging like ultrasound, CT scan, or MRCP to visualize the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts.
  • Specialized Procedures: If needed, Dr. Madake performs endoscopic procedures like ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) to diagnose and treat blockages in the bile duct, such as removing gallstones or placing stents.
  • Targeted Treatment: Based on the diagnosis, treatment may include antiviral drugs for hepatitis, endoscopic removal of gallstones, medication to manage itching, or surgery for tumors.
  • Supportive Care: We provide nutritional support and hydration to aid recovery.

Dr. Madake's expertise ensures that the underlying cause of your jaundice is accurately identified and effectively treated, leading to a faster and safer recovery.
